What to Expect

Local Pediatric Dentist in McDonough, GA

The First Dental Appointment

Pediatric Dentists recommend kids have their first dental checkup before they’re a year old, or within six months of seeing their first tooth. If your kid is bigger than that — no worries! We welcome ages 0-17 and can’t wait to meet you and your kiddo.

ages zero to twelve months

First appointments with babies are just to check that all oral structures are developing smoothly. We do a gentle exam of the gums and jaw, check for tooth eruption, and take extra care to educate parents on what’s to come and address any concerns.

ages one to four years

This is where the fun begins! We start talking about healthy habits and prevention, but even more importantly we let them explore our fun toys and space so they have a positive experience and feel comfortable at the dentist in the future. We count and check all the tiny teeth and make sure this stage of development is progressing well.

ages five to ten years

During these years we start working on confidence and empowerment as kids take charge of their oral hygiene routine. Appointments may involve more treatments, like cavity fillings and sealants if needed, and we’ll monitor bite alignment as adult teeth come in.

ages eleven to seventeen years

With big kids, we focus on long-term health and independence. We take care of cleanings, X-rays, orthodontic check-ins and referrals (if needed), and do everything we can to make sure their general dentist says they have beautiful teeth at their first grown-up dental appointment.

Sedation Dentistry

We do all we can to help ease your kid’s fears, including offering sedation options. But many kids don’t need it, because when they start to understand their own oral health, the more empowered they feel in the chair. Our work helps kids feel confident, not just in their smile, but that they can handle tough stuff.

“Giving kids tools to face their fears at the dentist helps them conquer other things they may be afraid of in life.”
